Strategic Goals for the HPC modernization Project : The University of Kansas ’ strategic goals for HPC modernization include : 1 . Research Acceleration : Enable scalable high - performance computing resources for advanced modeling , simulation , data analytics , and AI / ML workloads . 2 . Regulatory Compliance : Ensure environments meet HIPAA , FERPA , CUI , and applicable federal research regulations . 3 . Hybrid Architecture : Seamlessly integrate cloud - based HPC services with existing and planned on - premises infrastructure . 4 . Predictability and Automation : Support Infrastructure as Code ( IoC ), automation , and near - real - time cost and capacity management . Purpose of the RFI The purpose of this RFI is to identify qualified cloud service providers capable of delivering short - term , scalable , and compliant cloud HPC services that complement KU ’ s on - premises HPC infrastructure over the next 24 - 36 months , with an eye toward longer - term strategy . This RFI aims to , at a minimum : 1 . Understand available cloud HPC architectures and services that allow KU and KUMC campuses to rapidly shift workloads and services as needed , ensuring agility and continuity in research and administrative operations . 2 . Identify cloud vendors offering short - term and scalable HPC services that are complementary and compatible with planned upgrades to KU ’ s on - premises infrastructure . 3 . Engage qualified cloud vendors to assess and contribute to the University of Kansas longterm HPC strategy for up to five years and beyond , supporting the university ’ s goals for research acceleration , hybrid cloud / on - premises architecture , while ensuring regulatory compliance ( HIPAA , FERPA , CUI ).
