4 . 1 . Scope of Work Phase 1 a . Location : This phase consists of the majority of the basement area . b . The scope of work for this phase includes the following : 1 ) Demolition of existing steam boilers , steam humidification system , and heating hot water system . 2 ) Demolition of existing steam , condensate , steam humidification , and heating hot water piping . 3 ) Installation of new heating hot water condensing boiler system . 4 ) Installation of new heating hot water loop in basement . 5 ) Basement ventilation fan and louver actuators . 6 ) Flywheel repair scope . c . Scheduling Requirements : 1 ) MoDOT shuts down their heating plant in the late spring / summer time frame and doesn ' t turn heating on until fall . The project design assumes that the Phase 1 work will take place during this shutdown . The Phase also is assumed to be the first or one of the first phases addressed . Provisions in the design have been made for the replacement of the steam portion of the heating system with a heating hot water only heating system including temporary preheat coils for MAU - 1 , MAU - 2 , MAU - 3 , and MAU - 4 . Phase 2 a . Location : This phase consists of the 1st floor corridor and support spaces on the 1st floor . b . The scope of work for this phase includes the following : 1 ) Demolition of existing steam , condensate , steam humidification , and heating hot water piping up through the pipe chase from the basement . Piping accessible in the corridor area shall be demolished . Piping routed into other areas will be capped and removed in subsequent phases . Heating hot water piping demolished in this phase will only be part of the inner loop . 2 ) Demolition of steam coils in MAU - 1 , MAU - 2 , MAU - 3 , and MAU - 4 . 3 ) Install new temporary heating hot water preheat coil in MAU - 1 , MAU - 2 , MAU - 3 , and MAU - 4 . 4 ) The controls for MAU - 1 , MAU - 2 and MAU - 4 will need to be 5 ) Install new heating hot water loop up from the basement and in first floor corridor with shutoffs to accommodate other phases . 6 ) Piping will need to be routed to serve the temporary heating hot water coils . 7 ) The new heating hot water loop will be connected to the existing outer loop . 8 ) Connect AHU - 1 , AHU - 2 , AHU - 3 , AHU - 4 , AHU - 6 , AHU - 7 , MAU - 1 , MAU - 2 , MAU - 3 , and MAU - 4 heating hot water branches to the new heating hot water loop ( these branches were previously connected to the existing inner loop ). 9 ) Air Handling Unit 5 replacement and replacement of corresponding duct , air terminals , exhaust fans , controls , and other system components .
