Construction Inspection Services for Southern State Parkway Ramps Reconstruction at Exit 13

This agreement will provide Construction Inspection services for a safety enhancement project to reconstruct the Southern State Parkway exit 13 ( central Avenue / Linden Boulevard ) interchange in the Town of Hempstead , Nassau County to improve the safety of the travelling public . The proposed works are to address the existing geometric deficiencies by removing the nonstandard ramp geometry and extending the non - conforming acceleration lane ; realigning the eastbound Southern State Parkway entry and exit ramps to reduce vehicle conflicts ; installing sidewalk on both sides of Central Avenue to provide a continuous pedestrian access route under the Southern State Parkway . The reconfiguration shall include the following : • Realign the eastbound Exit 13S ramp to cross Central Avenue at a skewed angle rather than turning and tying in with southbound Central Avenue . The realignment allows the northbound and southbound movement off the exit - ramp . The intersection will be controlled by traffic signal . • Eliminate the existing eastbound Exit 13N loop ramp as the reconfigured eastbound Exit 13S accounts for the northbound and southbound movements exiting the Southern State Parkway . • Redesign the eastbound Southern State Parkway entry ramp to be in - line with the reconfigured eastbound Exit 13S ramp , creating a skewed four ( 4 ) legged intersection with Central Avenue . Retaining walls , noise barriers , drainage , utilities , lighting , and traffic signal work are expected . The project will utilize a combination of daytime and nighttime construction . Inspectors may be required to work nights and weekends .
