Description

A . Remove fuels on up to 39 acres within 2 separate units . The unit hand thinning specifications as follows : 1 . Unit A & B : Cut all conifers 1 ft tall to 8 . 9 ” DBH to achieve an average of 20 x 20 ft spacing ( 109 Trees Per Acre ) a . Selection of leave trees shall be made in the following priority : i . Ponderosa Pine ii . Douglas Fir iii . Sugar Pine iv . Lodgepole Pine v . Incense Cedar vi . White Fir vii . Western Juniper b . Do not cut Western White Pine of any size class . c . Leave trees shall be the healthiest , most vigorous , and best formed trees of the preferred species in the stand , as evidenced by the tallest height , largest crowns / ratios , straightest stems , and least amount of damage or disease . d . Where undamaged trees are not available , select the trees with the least amount of damage for retention . e . Leave tree spacing is an average across the unit and shall be varied up to 25 % (+/- 5ft ) to leave the most desirable trees . It is more important to leave the healthiest trees , rather than having uniform spacing . f . Trees may be cut up to 12 ” DBH to improve the survivability of a larger tree or where it would enhance stand health and reduce fuel levels . g . Species preference compensates somewhat for minor differences in size or quality . For example , a smaller , but equal quality Douglas - fir which is 2 / 3 the height of Incense Cedar , the Douglas - fir should be left rather than the Incense Cedar . A Ponderosa Pine with minor bole damage would be preferred over an undamaged White Fir . 2 . Remove all Western Juniper 1ft tall up to 12 ” DBH . 3 . Remove all trees 1ft tall up to 8 . 9 ” DBH within double the canopy drip line of Western White Pine , Ponderosa Pine , or Western Larch that are equal or greater than 21 ” DBH ...
