Description | CALCIUM NITRATE SOLUTION REQUIREMENTS The material required under this specification shall be used to remove hydrogen sulfide , thereby preventing odor and corrosion within wastewater collection and treatment systems . A . The material shall utilize and enhance naturally occurring biochemical processes to accomplish hydrogen sulfide removal . B . C . via standard liquid phase chemical handling procedures . The material shall be a liquid phase product and shall be delivered , stored and fed into the wastewater D . The material shall be fully compatible with storage and feed equipment constructed of any of the following : 1 . 2 . 3 . 4 . 5 . High - Density Cross - Linked Polyethylene PVC Polypropylene FRP Stainless Steel E . 12 - 2 ) or approved equal . The product shall contain a minimum of 3 . 5 pounds of nitrate - oxygen per gallon of solution and maintain a crystallization point of less than - 10 degrees F . The material shall be a non - hazardous product as defined by the EPA ' s CERCLA list and shall be exempt from Federal DOT placarding requirements .
