Description

Description

OverviewThis request for proposals is seeking a contractor to develop a “ playbook ” of actionable strategies to reduce the risk of wildfire disruption to transportation in Colorado . This playbook will leverage CDOT - generated analysis that sets a priority for where wildland fire poses a risk to operation of the transportation system , and identify and prioritize good practices to lower the threat of operational loss of roadway functionality . Background1 . HistoryThe Colorado Department of Transportation ( CDOT ) must continue to build upon its current approach to risk and resilience ( R and R ). The purpose of this activity is to evaluate relevant wildland fire data , assess application of this data to CDOT ' s operational and maintenance and operations activities , and identify actionable strategies to reduce the risk of travel disruption related to wildland fires . GoalsIdentification of good practices to lower the threat of operational loss of roadway functionality due to roadside or near - roadside wildfires . Such practices may include fire - resistant vegetation , removal or thinning of vegetation , mowing , or other methods to preserve transportation operability for egress and ingress . Development of matrix detailing ease of implementation of good practices by roadway typology and geographic characteristics . Identification of interagency stakeholders and a matrix of ease of for CDOT ’ s implementation of recommended actions . Develop methodology for categorizing priority of operational loss with risk of wildland fire , for example ; high fire likelihood and vegetation within 6 ft of roadway to characterize risk of fire proximity likely to disrupt transportation , or high fire intensity and vegetation within a height - to - distance ratio to characterize risk of roadway blockage . Produce strategies CDOT could deploy to mitigate risks in the highest priority areas . Overall ease of implementation and replicability is key . Identify internal CDOT stakeholders who will be involved in implementation . These strategies may be communicated in formats such as a list and / or map . See more
