Firerock Bridge Project

The Project consists of removal of a derelict wooden pedestrian bridge over the Deschutes River , removal of a section of PVC waterline , removal and replacement of a wooden staircase on the east side of the river , and restoration of the work area including landscaping and project access . The Work includes removal of the 136 - foot - long wood bridge including complete removal of the bridge railing , decking , beams , cross - bracing , approaches , and concrete support piers . Work below the ordinary high - water mark must be completed within the in - water work window . The removal of approximately 200 LF of waterline must be completed by a DEQ licensed asbestos abatement contractor in accordance with Oregon Revised Statutes 468A . 720 and Oregon Administrative Rules 340 , Division 248 . Work must be completed in accordance with the permits obtained , both by the City , and contractor , for the Project . The contractor is required to obtain the demolition permit , clearing / grading permit , and building permit ( s ) for the project . The City has obtained the following permits for the project : City of Bend Waterway Overlay Zone Permit , Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Notification of Intent , Department of State Lands 404 Permit , Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Fish Passage Permit , and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Rescue / Salvage Authorization .
