BackgroundUSACE is seeking information from interested and qualified contractors regarding potential modernization of excitation systems at Fort Peck Dam , a remote hydroelectric facility located on the Missouri River near Glasgow , Montana . The facility consists of two powerhouses with a total of five generating units . Existing excitation systems present reliability and supportability concerns due to aging equipment , partial legacy upgrades , and obsolescence of key control components . Powerhouse 1 – Units 1 – 3Existing digital excitation regulator hardware remains serviceable . Front - end excitation controls , field breakers , and operator interface components are obsolete and / or experiencing reliability issues . The Government is evaluating a targeted excitation system modernization approach , which may include replacement of failing or obsolete front - end components while reusing existing regulator hardware and cubicles , with modifications as required . Powerhouse 2 – Units 4 – 5Existing excitation systems include legacy components operating beyond their recommended design life . The Government is evaluating a full excitation system replacement for these units , which may include removal of existing equipment and installation of new digital static excitation systems .
