This project involves removing existing Trex composite decking and southern yellow pine nailers from the steel truss frame docking system , properly disposing of removed materials , and installing new composite decking and composite nailer boards that meet or exceed the specifications detailed herein . 3 . 1 REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF DECKING AND NAILER BOARDS 3 . 1 . 1 REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL : • Remove existing Trex composite decking from the floating dock steel truss frame system • Remove existing southern yellow pine nailer boards from the dock frame • Properly dispose of all removed materials in accordance with applicable local , state , and federal regulations • Remove and set aside ( for re - use ) the deck rail on the bank side of the dock and on both sides of the end gangway landing 3 . 1 . 2 SURFACE PREPARATION : • Prepare dock frame surface by removing all prior decking materials including screws , bolts , and fasteners • Ensure frame surface is clean , level , and free of debris in preparation for new decking installation • Inspect steel truss frame for damage and report any structural concerns to the City prior to installation 3 . 1 . 3 MATERIAL INSTALLATION : • Install new composite decking boards and nailer boards meeting the specifications in Section 5 • Install decking and nailers to match the height of existing bump board on the sides of the docks • Secure decking with approved fasteners per manufacturer specifications • Re - install deck rail on bank side and end gangway landing following decking installation 3 . 1 . 4 PROJECT COMPLETION : • Inspect all work for quality and compliance with specifications • Remove all construction debris and equipment from site • Provide final walk - through with City representatives
