The City of Springfield has a requirement for landscaping services specified below for various sites , which includes maintaining the shrubs , perennials , and weeds within our landscape beds during the specified time frame . The Contractor shall provide all labor , equipment , materials , fuel , insurance , taxes and other items necessary to provide grounds services as specified herein . All work shall be accomplished in accordance with the Scope of Work and Specifications contained or referenced herein . WEED CONTROL ( 18X A YEAR – BIWEEKLY ): 3 . 2 . 1 Provide weed control by hand pulling , spraying , or other means in landscape beds , adjacent curb and gutters , and sidewalks . 3 . 2 . 2 All spraying shall be done in accordance with the Department of Agricultures – Pesticide Use Act and according to the label of any chemicals . 3 . 2 . 3 A drift guard or spray shield at the end of the nozzle will be required to minimize drift onto desirable species . 3 . 2 . 4 Hand pulling weeds around desirables species will be required . A 4 ” buffer around each plant will need to occur before spraying . < 4 ” – hand pulling required , > 4 ” hand pulling , spraying , or other means . 3 . 2 . 5 Trash and litter shall be removed from areas and taken off site if no trash containers are available . 3 . 2 . 6 Proper training protocol should occur to distinguish weeds versus desirable plant species . Landscape plans or a species list can be provided upon request . 3 . 3 SHRUB PRUNING & DEHEADING ( 4X PER YEAR ): 3 . 3 . 1 Shrubs to be properly pruned 1x in April , May , June and September for a typical schedule . Months may be swapped at the City ’ s discretion depending on safety concerns , specific needs , etc . 3 . 3 . 2 Proper pruning techniques shall be followed in accordance with the MU Extension – Pruning Ornamental Trees and Shrubs . 3 . 3 . 3 Deadheading of dead flower heads to be properly pruned off 1x in May , July , August , and September for a typical schedule . Months may be swapped at the City ’ s discretion depending on safety concerns , specific needs , etc . 3 . 3 . 4 These tasks should be carried out during weed control visits to minimize trips to locations . Therefore , a total of eighteen ( 18 ) visits to a site will occur for weed control with shrub pruning and deadheading tasks worked in on those visits . 3 . 3 . 5 All debris is to be promptly raked / picked up the same day of the pruning and deadheading .
