Description

Description

The Mangrove Cove Boardwalk, opened to the public in July 2025, is a 190 ? metre accessible walkway through the State’s southernmost stand of white mangroves on the Leschenault Inlet. It has rapidly become a highly valued recreational site within the Kalgulup Regional Park network. Currently, only the first two boardwalk sections adjacent to the abutment are fitted with X-TEND stainless steel mesh balustrade infill. The remaining boardwalk barrier sections, as shown in Figure 1, comprise approximately 179.4 linear metres of balustrading with kick rails only and no mesh infill. To improve public safety, enhance structural consistency, and achieve a uniform appearance throughout the boardwalk, DBCA proposes to retrofit these sections with stainless steel mesh infill. The works include the installation of approximately 365 linear metres of 8 mm Grade 316 stainless steel mesh-support rods fixed at nominal 300 mm centres, the removal of existing kick rails, the extension of the existing balustrade system, relocation of the existing turn-down barrier section, and the construction of a self-closing access gate in accordance with the attached drawings. For reference, the proposed infill extent as shown on the boardwalk layout plan (See Attachment A and Figure 1). The rods form the lacing rail for stainless steel extended mesh balustrade, consistent with the detail used on the existing meshed sections. DBCA seeks quotations from suitably experienced stainless ? steel fabricators/installer contractors for the supply, fabrication, and installation of the 8mm Stainless Steel lacing rod, new gate, and modification of one railing that requires being extended. All works including measurement, shop drawings, approvals, fabrication, installation, and documentation must be completed by 25 November 2026.
