On 29.6.2014 the Belgian parliament adopted a law amending the law from 22.7.1985 on the civil liability for nuclear damage. The amendment is expected to enter into force on 1.1.2020. Its purpose is to implement the Protocol from 2004 amending the liability regime under the Paris Convention of 1960 on the liability in the nuclear energy field. Accordingly, the law increases the liability amount for which nuclear operators are liable and prolongs the prescription period for physical damage caused by a nuclear accident to 30 years instead of 10 years.
