Frequently , individuals who are subject to arrest warrants flee Shelby County in an attempt to avoid prosecution . When these fugitives are apprehended by law enforcement in other jurisdictions , the Sheriff ’ s Office is required to ensure their return to Shelby County so that they may answer the charges against them . This responsibility is critical to upholding the rule of law , ensuring accountability , and protecting public safety within Shelby County . To meet these obligations , the Shelby County Sheriff ’ s Office requires the services of a qualified Provider to : • Pick up and assume lawful custody of individuals detained in other jurisdictions pursuant to Shelby County warrants ; • Safely and securely transport these individuals back to designated Shelby County facilities ; and • Provide transport services to and from specified locations as required , including correctional institutions , courthouses , and medical facilities . Engaging a Provider for prisoner and fugitive transport allows the Sheriff ’ s Office to maintain compliance with judicial mandates , preserve staffing resources for other critical law enforcement duties , and ensure that detainees and fugitives are transported in a safe , secure , and efficient manner consistent with all applicable laws and standards .
