Short description: The European Investment Bank (EIB), accompanied by a grant from the EU Neighbourhood Investment Facility (NIF), has provided funding to the Georgian Government to execute the Georgia East-West Highway (GEWH) project, which comprises of the Civil Works of construction of 52 Km 4 lane highway for Samtredia-Grigoleti road section, which is divided into the following four lots: ·       Lot 1 - Km 0+000 - Km 11+500 – the construction is ongoing; ·       Lot 2 - Km 11+500 - Km 30+000 – the construction is completed; ·       Lot 3 - Km 30+000 - Km 42+000 – the construction is ongoing; ·       Lot 4 - Km 42+000 - Km 51+570 – the construction is completed. The European Investment Bank (EIB), accompanied by a grant from the EU Neighbourhood Investment Platform (NIP), has provided funding to the Georgian Government for the Georgia Transport Connectivity (GTC) project, which encompasses the new construction and rehabilitation of approximately 250km of priority primary and secondary roads within the Georgian road network. This funding will be provided under a Framework Loan to ensure Georgia’s global connectivity and local mobility. Ten individual schemes have been preliminarily identified for inclusion under the Loan, out of which seven are proposed financed by EIB. The scope includes the construction of: ·       Grigoleti-Kobuleti Bypass Road Section Km 00 +000 – Km 14 + 000 of E-70 Highway; ·       Ubisa-Shorapani Road Section of E-60 Highway (F3) - the construction is completed; ·       Chumateleti-Khevi Section of E-60 Highway (F1) - the construction is completed. The EIB has provided funding to the Georgian Government for the new construction and rehabilitation (including a Road Safety component) of roads located directly on the extended Trans-European Transport (TEN-T) network, i.e. the East-West Highway (EWH) in Georgia. This initiative will enhance Georgia’s global connectivity and local mobility. The Georgia Transport Connectivity II (GTC II) Framework Loan will be a complementary platform to continue supporting Georgia in reaching its international connectivity and local mobility objectives. Sub-projects under GTC II are expected to be financed in parallel by the EIB, other international financial institutions (IFIs), and the Government of Georgia. GTC II includes: ·       The execution of the construction of Rustavi-Algeti (Lot I) and Algeti-Red Bridge (Lot II) of E-60 Highway; ·       The execution of the construction of Algeti-Araflo (Lot III) and Araflo-Sadakhlo (Lot IV) of E-60 Highway. Georgia has received a grant from the EU through Neighbourhood Investment Platform (NIP). The Road Safety Improvement Project is to improve road safety on the national roads network. The main output of the Project is to eliminate separate selected blackspots located along the extended TEN-T network in Georgia and improve the road safety. The main expected benefit is a decrease of road accidents in both number and severity. The civil works on the selected road sections (blackspots) will include specific physical safety improvements, complemented by awareness raising activities. The Construction works will include the arrangement of road signs, horizontal road markings, metal guardrails, traffic lights in urban areas, roundabouts, safety islands, sidewalks and pedestrian crossings for the safety of pedestrians, as well as the rehabilitation of asphalt-concrete pavement and the arrangement of entrances and exits near bus stops. The project includes 27 selected blackspots located in all regions of Georgia. Certain parts of this credit will be applied to hire an Implementation Consultant to support and facilitate the efficiency and effectiveness of procurement activities, contract management and monitoring and evaluation for the EIB-financed projects “Georgia East-West Highway A/B,” “Georgia Transport Connectivity A/B,” “Georgia Transport Connectivity II,” and EU NIP Road Safety Grant.
