The improvements are initiated to reduce disinfection by - product ( DBP ) formation in the distribution system by increasing PAC dose which is currently limited to 2 to 3 mg per gallon . The objective is to improve the removal of natural present organic materials in the raw water by increasing PAC dose up to 10 mg per gallon . The removal of DBP improves the taste of water . The current PAC system is located on the North - Western side of the WFP and includes a 37 , 000 - gallon PAC slurry tank with mixer , and two ( 2 ) Verderflex Dura 25 Peristaltic metering pumps . The current system cannot maintain constant PAC slurry concentration between deliveries , causes potential driving hazards in the form of dust clouds during delivery , can experience delivery delays due to rain , and requires delivery limits of 1 , 000 lbs . Following extensive evaluation of potential alternatives , TWW determined that retro fitting the existing tank is the preferred approach to meeting their PAC needs . The selected Firm will be responsible for providing all requisite services for the design and construction of the PAC system improvements , encompassing design , permitting , and construction .
