Description | The WVU PRT intends to modernize the electrical , mechanical , and control systems of three ( 3 ) heating plants that serve three ( 3 ) separate sections of the embedded guideway heating system . This system utilizes gas - fired boilers to heat a 50 % glycol / water solution pumped through grid piping in the concrete running surfaces to melt snow and ice and allow the PRT to operate during winter weather events . All existing boilers at each plant shall remain and shall not be replaced as a part of this project . All demolition , new work , commissioning , and associated coordination shall be the responsibility of the Supplier , as per the attached drawings and specifications ( Attachments D & E ). All required removal , recovery , storage , and replacement of the existing glycol solution within each system loop is the responsibility of the Supplier .
