Description

Description

Youth Justice (YJ) identified the need to directly engage the specialist services of Deakin University to address the concerning level of African-Australian and Pasifika young people overrepresented in the justice system. Trends identified among some young African Australians, particularly regarding themes of high harm offending and peer group rivalries, have also been identified among young Pasifika Victorians. In light of these trends, urgent work is warranted to reduce the number of young African Australians and Pasifika Australians involved in the Victorian justice system. This updated program of research aims to address this issue by identifying: contemporary specific factors and contexts leading young African-Australian and Pasifika young people to the Victorian criminal justice system, and evidence-based community endorsed initiatives to prevent early justice system contact, and further involvement for those with justice histories.   Variation to the existing contract.
