A fin de que la Sociedad de Salvamento y Seguridad Marítima pueda prestar los servicios que tiene legalmente encomendados, resulta imprescindible realizar la varada del buque Punta Mayor. Esto es debido a que expiran todos sus certificados en mayo, al ser un buque mayor de 30 años, obliga a sacar del agua el barco cada dos años para renovarlo.
