Description | The State of Montana Department of Environmental Quality ( DEQ ) and Custer Gallatin National Forest ( CGNF ) are seeking a third - party contractor to prepare a joint environmental impact statement ( EIS ) analyzing the potential environmental impacts of the expansion of the Stillwater Mine to construct and operate the East Side Waste Rock Storage Facility and Hertzler Stage 4 and 5 Tailings Storage Facility Expansion Plan along with various other operational facilities to support the expansion in accordance with Montana Environmental Policy Act ( MEPA ) and the National Environmental Policy Act ( NEPA ). |
