Description

Description

Please note that this is not a call for tenders but a publication announcing the Contracting authority’s intention to publish a future negotiated low or middle valueprocedure.

Pandemics preparedness needs fast, accurate and sensitive methods for the detection of pathogens and for following the presence of antibodies against pathogens after infection. Bio-photonics, coupled with specific bio-recognition elements and microfluidics, offers the ability to improve the overall testing capabilities against existing and emerging pathogens. In particular, protein microarrays are an established approach to the development of highly sensitive, and reproducible tests, while detection in the near infrared region increases sensitivity. The unit F.2 has several activities in this area and is developing and harmonizing methods and measurement strategies for the accurate characterization of bio-recognition elements against pathogens (both antigens and antibodies). To be able to read and analyse protein microarray chips, the unit F.2 aims to purchase a protein microarray scanner able to detect signals in the near-infrared region.
