Tamp or roll lightly to ensure contact with subgrade , eliminate air pockets , and form a smooth surface . Work sifted soil or fine sand into minor cracks between pieces of sod ; remove excess to avoid smothering sod and adjacent grass . 5 . 2 . 8 County will have fields prepared to finish grade bare soil . 5 . 2 . 9 Contractor will prepare seedbed : Furnish and apply fertilizer 12 - 12 - 12 per manufacturer ’ s recommended rate ; incorporate materials into the soil . 5 . 2 . 10 All operations will be performed only when the soil is in proper condition to permit satisfactory work , and with express written consent of County or County designated representative . 5 . 2 . 11 Upon completion of installation of sod , Contractor will water the entire installation area sufficient to soak the roots , help settle the soil and remove air pockets . 5 . 2 . 12 Contractor will furnish a spreader bar for the rolls at no cost to County so County has option to install the sod using County parks and recreation staff . 5 . 3 Price and Estimated Quantities 5 . 3 . 1 All pricing to include delivery to any County park within St .
