732 - 2 . 02 TIES Add the following after bullet 4 : 5 . Bridge Ties shall be made of soft wood Douglas fir and conform to the dimensions listed on the order and follow manufacturing practices and standards under AREMA Chapter 7 Timber Structures , note Section 1 . 7 Specifications for Timber Bridge Ties , specifically . Ties must be consistent in measure with a tolerance of ± 1 / 8 ”. Bridge ties shall be treated in accordance with Subsection 714 - 2 . 01 and Chapter 30 , AREMA MRE . If the manufacturer ’ s closest standard height for Bridge Ties A and B varies from the specified height of 11 1 / 2 inches , the manufacturer shall proportionally adjust the height of all bridge ties requiring custom milling to maintain the dimensional differences specified in the order . Bridge Ties shall retain the following constant proportional height relationships based on the final selected height of Bridge Ties A and B : - Bridge Ties C and D shall be 3 / 4 inch shorter than Bridge Ties A and B . - Bridge Ties E and F shall be 1 1 / 4 inches shorter than Bridge Ties A and B . All adjustments must maintain these proportional differences regardless of the final selected height for Bridge Ties A and B . Contact ARRC to confirm any height adjustments before proceeding .
