This project provides federally funded State Personal Responsibility Education Program ( PREP ) services to educate young people on both abstinence and contraception to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections ( STIs ), including HIV / AIDS . State PREP projects replicate effective , evidence - based program models or substantially incorporate elements of effective programs that have been proven to delay sexual activity , increase condom or contraceptive use for sexually active youth , and / or reduce pregnancy and STIs among youth . The WA PREP Model includes the following services : • Recruitment and Introduction : Conduct outreach to potential IPs ; overview of WA PREP services and support . • Needs Assessment and Work Plan : Identify needs and priorities , assess the types of WA PREP services that would best suit the community , and develop a work plan . • Administration and board education : Inform the larger school community about topics such as the legislative comprehensive sexual health education requirements , the curriculum adoption task force process , and implementation plan . • Curriculum review and / or adoption : Ensure the curriculum and lessons selected are comprehensive and meet the needs of the community . For school districts this also includes alignment with the legislative requirements and planning / facilitation of curriculum adoption task force . • Parent / Caregiver engagement : Provide parents , caregivers , and trusted adults with the knowledge , skills , and resources to support them in communicating with their young people about topics related to sexual health . • Educator training : Provide professional development to teachers which includes core skills for teaching CSHE . • Evaluation : Provide training to IPs for administration of surveys to youth before and after curriculum delivery . Collect surveys and submit data to DOH and the federal funder . • Sustainability : Provide support to IPs that have previously participated in WA PREP when there is staff turnover or other TA to continue delivering CSHE .
