The work to be done consists , in general , painting existing elevated water tower structure including the tank roof , top cap , handle and spout rim . The Contractor shall : 1 . Flush all equipment with thinner before use . 2 . Stir resin and cure using an explosion - proof power mixer to disperse pigments . 3 . Add cure to resin , mix thoroughly until uniformly blended to a workable consistency . 4 . Apply coating when ambient temperature is between 50 ° to 90 ° F ( 10 ° to 32 ° C ). 5 . Use approved thinners listed and thinning restrictions of www . nsf . org . 6 . Adjust conventional spray equipment to obtain adequate atomization at lowest air pressure . 7 . Apply a wet coat in even , parallel passes with 50 percent overlap to avoid holidays , bare areas and pinholes . Cross spray at right angles . 8 . When applying directly over inorganic zincs or zinc rich primers , a mist coat / full coat technique shall be required to minimize bubbling . 9 . Ventilate confined areas with clean air during application and while curing the final coat . Prevent moisture condensation on the surface between coats . Repair damaged areas by brush or spray . Acceptable first coat products : Amercoat Amerlock 2 or equivalent . Second Coat Materials The second coat material must be high - gloss , self - priming polysiloxane coating product . The paint shall have resistance to acid and corrosion , resist high humidity and moisture , resistant to chemical splash and spill , contain high solids and low VOC
